Courreges Elementary School
Parent Information

Absences - When your child is absent from school, please either call the Absence Hotline or e-mail the school office the day of the absence no later than 10:00 a.m. Please include the following information: child’s name, teacher’s name, date of absence, and reason for the absence. Please do not send your child to school when he/she is ill. Remember, children should be kept home 24 hours after a fever goes down.

Absence Hotline: 714.378.4282
School Email: courregesoffice@fvsd.k12.ca.us
PTA Website: http://www.courregespta.org

Tardiness - Please insure that your child arrives to school on time. Tardiness is a disruption to the classroom and to your child’s learning. Late arrivals must check-in with the office to get a tardy slip before going to the classroom.

School/District/PTA/Community Communication – Each week an envelope is sent home with student, which will contain class work, a newsletter called the “Cougar Tales”, and is published on a weekly basis and is a great source of information, etc. The Courreges PTA will also have the Cougar Tales, PTA flyers, and community flyers, in electronic format called “Electronic Monday Envelopes”. Please fill out the Orange Email Form in the 1st day packet or go to http://www.courregespta.org/monenv.

On-Campus Times - Students are allowed to be on campus 15 minutes before school (7:45 a.m.). There is no supervision on the playground prior to that time. At the end of the day, students are to go straight home when they are dismissed from school. Students on different schedules may not wait for siblings. There is no after school supervision.

Bicycle Riding - Students in grades 3-5 who ride bikes to and from school are required to wear bike helmets. Students in grades K-2 are not permitted to ride bikes to school. Bikes are to be kept in the bike rack with locks. Riders are not permitted to ride on school grounds. The school is not responsible for damaged or stolen bikes. No other vehicles may be brought to school, including roller blades, skateboards, scooters, etc.

Closed Campus - Every school in the Fountain Valley School District has a closed campus policy. Any person coming onto our campus must first sign-in with the office and pick-up a visitor’s badge before going to a classroom. Students are not allowed to leave campus during school hours unless their parent comes to the office and signs them out.

Lunch Information - Hot lunches are available at $2.25 per lunch on a daily basis or a ticket of 20 lunches for $45 per ticket. Checks are to be made out to Fountain Valley School District. A monthly menu will be sent home in the Monday envelope.

Medication - California Educational Code allows school personnel to administer prescription and over-the-counter medication only if we have the Parent/Guardian and Physician Request for Medication form on file in the school office. All medications must be brought to school by the parent and be in the original container from the pharmacy. Medications will be kept in the office and administered to your child as directed on the form. Students may not bring any medication to school to take on their own.

Forgotten Lunches / Homework / Musical Instruments – Please do not ask the office to deliver forgotten items that you or your child forgot. Students in grades 1-5 need to check in the office during recess and/or lunch for forgotten items.

Personal Messages to Students – Please do not ask the office to relay messages to students unless it is an EMERGENCY. The office is extremely busy and it’s not always feasible to relay a message.

School Phone - The office phone is to be used for business and emergency purposes only. Forgotten items or asking permission to go to a friend’s house after school are not considered emergencies.

Lost & Found - Our lost and found is located in the Bowl Area. Careful labeling with student’s name will help with the return of lost items.

Safe Internet Search

Internet safety is one of our top priorities in the 2006-2007 school year.  With our children learning to use tools on the Internet to do searches, they are potentially being exposed to inappropriate content.  Although the district provides Internet security, safe guarding results from a Google search is the most challenging.

Concerned Courreges PTA parents have researched and found a good search solution which not only will provide our students safe environment to search in, but intelligent search that’s grade appropriate.

The service is http://www.nettrekker.com

There are other websites for every state, but this is a good one to go to also.  This is a good site to make sure you know where the sex offenders are - not only for your children but also for yourselves.

Click on

After entering your address, it will show you a map of the location of the offender, including name, picture and the type of crime.  Be safe.

ODE TO YOU, VOLUNTEER

Parenthood takes on a whole new dimension
Life, as a volunteer
Sleep deprivation, creeping tension
Life, as a volunteer
School is where you're most often found
Life, as a volunteer
You begin to dream of homeward bound
Life, as a volunteer
Thirty-minute meals, fast food deals
Life, as a volunteer
Telephone yak, spouse's f lack
Life, as a volunteer
Family time, an uphill climb
Life, as a volunteer
"Go-to" person, fundraiser immersion
Life, as a volunteer
House needs paint, will have to wait
Life, as a volunteer
Laundry sits, house is a pit
Life, as a volunteer
But, how could we thrive, in fact, stay alive
If not for you, volunteer
You've made it all work, with a smile and a perk
We're grateful to you, volunteer
And the children, as they watch you, they see
That by giving, we truly receive
Self-sacrifice, without lament
Yours is a life well-spent
We commend you for sharing with our youth
Life's greatest lessons, and this is the truth:
No greater treasure can be found
We LOVE you for being around
