5th GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS

June 2, 2008

Attention 5th Grade Parents,

Your child’s Courreges years are quickly coming to an end and there are lots of fun and exciting activities planned.

  • One of the most anticipated events of the year is the Boomer’s trip scheduled for Friday June 13th. Your child must have a signed permission slip to be able to attend. Please be sure to return your signed permission slip as soon as possible. You can print a permission slip at this link: Boomer's Permission Slip

  • Don’t forget the upcoming “Lunch on the Lawn”. On June 9, please join your 5th grader for a picnic lunch. Click here for the details: 5th Grade Lunch on the Lawn

Let’s make sure these last few weeks are especially memorable for our 5th graders.

April 23, 2008

To:  5th Grade Teachers, Parents of 5th Grade Students and 5th Graders

I would like to thank you for loaning me your photos and discs for the 5th Grade Yearbook.  I will be returning all items very soon to the Yearbook Parents so they can further distribute them to you.

Your photo contributions were a great many, as I viewed each and every photo on the discs that were given to our Yearbook Parents (then to me) during our various collection phases throughout this year.  To be exact, that would be 110 discs (lots and lots and lots of photos!!!)

Creating the pages for the yearbook was a momentous task…I had fun doing so, yet the work was overwhelming at times; over 600 hours of sitting at my computer (of which at least half was done in the last 4 weeks).

When you get the yearbook in June, I truly hope you all enjoy each and every page; my dedication and heart was put into each page.

Thank you, again, for loaning your photos so your child and others could be represented in the yearbook.

Sincerely,

Loretta Mak

Final Call for Yearbook Pictures

With Outdoor Education and Jog-A-Thon done, we are in the final stage of collecting photos for the yearbook.  If you have pictures to share, they are due no later than Thursday, March 20th!  (Loretta Mak will be spending Spring Break finalizing the yearbook, so this is deadline is definite!)

Please put your pictures on disc and clearly mark the disc (not just the cover) with your name, teacher's names and room number.  Turn in your disc to your teacher no later than the March 20th deadline, and Loretta Mak and Melinda Lynch will pick them up from your teacher.

If you have any questions, please let Melinda Lynch know at (714) 962-9123.

Outdoor Education Alerts:

Sunglasses and Sunscreen - With snow on the ground, a lot of sun will be reflected.  Please have your children bring sunglasses and sunscreen.

Labeling your children's luggage - EVERYTHING needs a label.  We suggest that the sleeping bags and pillows be placed in a large trash bag (together) labeled in LARGE print (using masking tape) the student’s name and school name.  Also, the luggage (duffel bag/suit case) needs the same kind of label with masking tape. The bigger label, the better!  We also suggest that the student label their mittens, sweatshirts, hats, etc. You would be shocked at how many clothes are left behind up there.

Prepare for Snow - Please note that the camp would like all 5th graders to pack snow gear because there is currently 1-3 feet of snow and more is expected next week. Thanks everyone . . . and thanks to all who volunteered to load and unload. We could still use some help with unloading on the 7th, so if you can help, let us know.
Maribeth and Kari

5th Grade Yearbook Cover Contest

5th Grade Yearbook COVER CONTEST

Deadline: Wednesday, January 16, 2008 extended to January 22, 2008

Are you artistic and creative?  Can you let your hand be your guide while your imagination flows?  Well, it doesn’t matter whether you answered yes or no to the questions above.

We will be holding a Courreges Elementary School 5th Grade Yearbook Cover contest and would like each and every 5th Grade student to show your spirit by participating.  Every (appropriate) entry will be included in the yearbook, even if it is not chosen for the front cover.

Your cover entry must be no larger than 8 ½” x 11”.  It must be hand drawn by you—not computer generated.  Incorporate the following words creatively into your artwork:  “Courreges Elementary School”, “5th Grade”, and “2007-2008”.  Your final product must be neat and clean.  On the backside of your entry, use pencil to PRINT your name, your teacher’s name, and your room # on the bottom left hand corner.

Use bright, bold and colorful colors (the medium is your choice); pale and light colors will not show up well.  If you must use pale or light colors, make sure they are colored in very dark.

Have Fun!  We can’t wait to see your cover!

Please contact your Yearbook Parent with any questions:

Yearbook Dedication to Your Child

Deadline - Wednesday, January 16, 2008

(Please turn this into your classroom teacher.)

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

For this year’s 5th Grade Yearbook, we would like to give all the 5th Grade Parents an opportunity to dedicate a tile square to your child in the yearbook.  In the large square below left, write a special note, draw a special picture, include a photo of your child, or incorporate your own combination of creativity for this dedication.  Remember to include your child’s name as part of your dedication.

Please make sure it is neat and legible, and use colors that are dark and bright rather than light and dull (yellow and pale colors are not good choices).  This square will be scanned and shrunken to a 1.5” x 1.5” square (the smaller square below right), so do not write too small or too long of a message (short and sweet is better).

Remember to stay within the black line borders of the square.  Download form to get the black squares: 5th Grade Yearbook Tile Dedication Page

Thank you.  Please contact your Yearbook Parent with any questions:

Room 27 (Ruig) – Loretta Mak (964-5220) OR Melinda Lynch (962-9123)

Room 26 (Prieto) – Annette Gilbert (964-9866)

Room 25 (Harrison) – Jackie Pennella (968-4890)

Room 24 (Blake) – Andie Jacobsen (968-8990)

            Room 16 (Jones) – Lynne Drost (402-6774)

Attention All 5th Grade Parents!!

Enjoy a fun trip down memory lane!!!

It's time to go through your old pictures – it's yearbook time!!

The Yearbook Committee is currently compiling pictures for the 5th Grade Yearbook.  For your child to have fair representation in their yearbook, you need to submit their pictures.

We need help from all the 5th Grade parents in gathering photographs from the following activities (please note the Deadline Dates are next to the events):

  • A Wallet-Size Kindergarten or 1st Grade picture – Deadline:  December 5, 2007

  • Prior years’ photos with friends enjoying time spent at Courreges Elementary – Deadline December 5, 2007

  • Pictures from 5th grade events –

    • Halloween – Deadline:  December 5, 2007

    • Valentine's Day & Other Special Classroom Events – Deadline:  February 21, 2008

    • Outdoor Education & Jog-A-Thon – Deadline:  March 20, 2008

All pictures submitted need to be either printed photographs (please write your child’s name neatly on the backside of each photo) OR electronic copies of pictures in jpeg format (with a minimum of 300dpi resolution) saved on a dvd or cd (please write your child’s name on the front of the disk with a permanent marker.)

We are looking forward to using as many of your child’s photos as possible, but it may be difficult to use all pictures that are sent in (with the exception of the kindergarten/first grade pictures).   We will do our best to return any pictures (if they are marked appropriately), however, please keep copies of all your important pictures, as we cannot guarantee the pictures will be returned.

Please have your child deliver the pictures to his/her teacher by the Deadline Dates as listed above.  Please contact your Yearbook Parent with any questions:

Room 27 (Ruig) – Loretta Mak (964-5220) OR Melinda Lynch (962-9123)

Room 24 (Blake) – Andie Jacobsen (968-8990)
