Note from your 2008-2009 Courreges PTA President
Message from your PTA
President, Mrs. Nicola Weiss
Welcome to the 2008-09 school year! We are looking forward to
another fantastic year with the help of all our great
volunteers! We could not accomplish all of our PTA goals without
your continuous support. As many of you know, the PTA’s mission
is to promote the welfare of our children in our school
community. We, the PTA, provide a bridge between the home and
school so that the teachers and the parents can work together in
the interest of our children.
The PTA supports many programs at this school, but I would like
to introduce you to a few of them in a little more detail:
-
Field Trips: Did you know that the PTA pays for our students
field trips? Every year each grade level plans several trips
that are supporting their curriculum. Some of these trips
are off-site to museums, science centers, farms or
performing arts. Others happen here on campus, like the Long
Beach Aquarium, Orange County Performing Arts Center Puppet
Shows, science and history presentations. These are
wonderful and exciting events for the students, and days
they will always remember.
-
Art Masters: This program teaches art appreciation through
multimedia presentations. The students attend an assembly
that teaches them about the lives and works of master
artists. Shortly after attending the assembly they
participate in an art activity in their individual
classrooms — presented and lead by you, the parents! A fun
and educational way to be involved in your children’s art
education.
-
Best Paw/Accelerated Reader: This is our reading incentive
program for lower and upper core. Students read books at
various levels of difficulty. In lower core, parent
volunteers will then interview the student. In upper core,
the program is done on their computers in the classrooms.
The students are rewarded for their individual achievements
throughout the year.
These are only a few of the
programs that allow you to become involved! Our PTA is always
looking for more parents to become involved, and we could not
succeed without all your tireless efforts and support!
Thank you,
Nicola Weiss
