“Read Across America” Day, Dr Suess’s Birthday and our Courreges Pajama Day

ALL Parents are invited to come to read to their Courreges classrooms on Friday, March 2nd for “Read Across America” Day, Dr Suess’s Birthday and our Courreges Pajama Day.  We would like to have 2-3 parents per classroom so we can have smaller groups around each book. Anyone can come to read. Please check-in with Jennifer Edmonds in the multipurpose room by 9:15am so we can make sure every classroom is covered.  We still have a few rooms without readers, especially grades 3-5.  Any PTA members, parent helpers, uniformed workers or friendly parents are WECOME TO READ.  You can bring your own book to read or borrow from the teachers.  Please come by for 15-30 minutes this Friday to show the kids how IMPORTANT READING is.

Thanks for your support!

Read Across America and Courreges Pajama Day, Friday March 2

In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Friday, March 2nd is National Read Across America Day. To celebrate the occasion, all children, staff and guest readers are invited to wear their PAJAMAS to school, along with hard, closed-toe shoes.

Any parent helpers who would like to come read to our kids, please meet in the Multi Purpose Room by 9:15.  Bring a picture book or 2 if you like.  Teachers should have some books in their rooms, too. We will read to most classrooms from 9:30-10:00.  Kindergarten reading will be 9:45-10:05.  Adult readers may wear pajamas, uniforms or regular clothes.

Come join the fun this Friday, to encourage reading everyday.

Attention 5th Grade

The 5th Grade Panoramic picture will be taken on Thursday, March 1.  If you would like to purchase the picture, please click here:  5th Grade Panorama Picture Order

Please watch for an e-mail update on all 5th grade activities.

Reminder:  Final payment of your suggested donation for Outdoor Science Camp is due on Friday, March 2.  If you have any question about the amount due, please contact Libby Frolichman at libbyvince@socal.rr.com.

Courreges is having a Dr. Seuss Reading Day on March 2nd, his birthday.

We need readers for all the classes to read from 9:30-10am that Friday.  Kindergarten will read after recess at 10:20

We are looking for uniformed police officers, firefighters, nurses, pilots, school board members, retired teachers, and special guests to read their favorite picture book(s) or Dr. Seuss book to a class.  Teachers should have additional, age appropirate books available to read, if necessary.

If you can read to one of our classes on March 2nd from 9:30-10am, please RSVP to jfedmonds@verizon.net.

Readers will meet in the Courreges Multipurpose room (MPR) at 9- 9:15 to organize readers for each class. You can read in your child’s classroom.

Kids and staff are invited to wear pajamas for this reading day.

The Cat in the Hat may make a special appearance that day, too!

Want to get more involved at Courreges?

The PTA Nominating Committee is in the process of identifying candidates to fill open positions on the PTA Executive Board for the 2012-2013 term of office.  We wanted to reach out to all parents to see if there was anyone we may have missed.

In particular, we are looking to fill the following positions:

  • President
  • Treasurer
  • Membership
  • Auditor

If you (or someone you know) are interested in taking one of these positions, please contact any committee member immediately.  Our job on the Committee is to try to fill every open position, however, if a position already has a candidate and you would still like to be considered, please let us know.  The Election Meeting will be held at the end of March (date TBD).

Please note: you must be an active and paid member of the Courreges PTA for at least 30 days prior to accepting a Board position.

If you have any questions about a position and/or what the responsibilities are, please do not hesitate to call or email a committee member.  Thanks for your support of this great school!

The Time is Now to Transform our Public Schools

Update on the PTA-supported Our Children, Our Future statewide education initiative

The most urgent crisis facing California schools is that they simply don’t have the resources to provide our children with the education they need.  That is why the California State PTA supports the Our Children, Our Future initiative, which will transform our public schools by generating a substantial amount of new revenues for K-12 schools and early childhood education.  Other initiatives have also been proposed for the November 2012 statewide ballot, but we believe Our Children, Our Future is clearly the best for students and public education.

We are moving full-steam ahead and helping to qualify and pass this initiative in November 2012.

All PTA members and leaders are encouraged to join the effort to qualify and pass the Our Children, Our Future initiative.

For a more complete update on the initiative, please click here

Please don’t hesitate to contact Patty Scripter, Director of Legislation for California State PTA at legislation@capta.org, if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks for all that you do on behalf of all children and families!
